“LAUNCH”
U.S. Space Command is proud to announce that mankind is taking its next giant leap! The U.S.S. Excelsior is the first in a series of Kirby-class intergalactic starships to be launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Under the stewardship of America's greatest astronaut, Colonel John Jameson, the Excelsior will represent the United States and the good people of Earth as it journeys into the far reaches of the galaxy on a mission of exploration and diplomacy that will establish humanity as a major power in the universe!
It's stalwart command crew was handpicked by Colonel Jameson himself and represents the very best of the best: esteemed S.H.I.E.L.D. veteran, First Officer Monica Chang; youth prodigy and "big hero" in his own right, Chief Engineer Hiro Hamada; lovable and inflatable robotic healthcare provider, Chief Medical Officer Baymax; multi-armed Operations Manager, Rita "Spiral" Wayword; and the luckiest Flight Controller in the universe, Longshot! The crew is joined by Special Tactical Advisor Korg of the stone-like Kronan people and Defense Advisor Warbird of the Shi'ar, plus special Avengers representative Jessica Drew, a.k.a. Spider-Woman!
Their first mission: answer a distress call from within the solar system coming from the damaged starship Skuttlebutt, the vessel of friend-to-Earth Beta Ray Bill. But is the new crew ready to handle what's causing the distress? An intergalactic warship... from the People's Republic of Hydra???

“WHERE NO ONE HAS HAILED BEFORE”
The People's Republic of Hydra has been derisively nicknamed "Little America" by its detractors around the world. Those detractors fault both nations for their interventionist foreign policies, for hoarding beneficial technology, and for supporting regime change in order to prop up puppet leaders in other regions. This comparison irks Hydra Commander, who hates competition and wants to rule the one nation that is indisputably the planet's greatest super power! But to do so, HYDRA must first win the space race!
America is poised to project its influence on a universal scale with the launch of the U.S.S. Excelsior, its first Kirby Class intergalactic starship, but the PRH is not to be outdone... Captained by the infamous Kraken, Daniel Whitehall, the PRH launches its own starship - the R.O.H.S. Ultimatum! And it's hailing HYDRA where no one has hailed before!
Eager to test its impressive armaments and carve a reputation for itself in the cosmos, the Ultimatum opens fire on the nearest alien ship, which it claims has trespassed upon sovereign HYRDA space - Skuttlebutt, the ship of Beta Ray Bill! Now, in a battle that began last issue, it's up to Captain Jameson, Spider-Woman, Hiro, and the rest of the Excelsior's crew to rescue Bill and out-maneuver the Ultimatum. But is this just the opening salvo in a war that will rock the spaceways? And what kind of blowback will HYDRA's aggressive actions on the galactic stage have for all of Earth?

“HOLOGRAPHIC TREEHOUSE OF HORROR”
Spider-pig, Spider-pig, does whatever a Spider-pig does! Jessica "Spider-Woman" Drew, however, isn't amused! Like many of us, Colonel John Jameson's favorite show has always been "The Simpsons." So when the hedonistic Eternal Starfox gifted the U.S. government holographic recreation technology to install on the Excelsior, Jameson wasted no time in importing a program that would allow him to visit Springfield and hang out with his main man - Homer Simpson! Today the Colonel's invited the ship's Avengers liaison to join him and Homer for a day in Sector 7G of the Nuclear Plant followed by a Duff beer at Moe's Tavern, but Spider-Woman's belief that the show should have ended after season 10 is about to be reinforced! Somehow, an unknown cosmic intelligence has found the program and identified with the Simpsons' resident drooling and tentacled aliens, Kodos and Kang (not to be confused with the Conqueror)! Now space invaders are attacking the fictional town - but John and Jessica can't get out of the holo-rec room! And did we mention the safeties are all turned off? As Hiro, Baymax, Monica Chang and the rest of the crew scramble to fix the malfunction, John and Jessica's only hope of surviving long enough to escape might just be... Homer Simpson and a board with a nail in it? D'oh!
Meanwhile, HYDRA seeks to establish a colony on Centauri-IV using less diplomatic measures. The R.O.H.S. Ultimatum unleashes an assault force on the planet's blue and red-finned people, who have no defensive technology beyond bows and arrows. But they do have other defenses... Matriarch Oola Udonta and the Centaurian Inhumans!

“A ROCK'S HARD PLACE”
Colonel John Jameson and the crew of the U.S.S. Excelsior arrive on Ria, homeworld of the rock-like Kronan people. Their diplomatic mission is to negotiate the right to establish an American outpost on the planet in exchange for allowing the Kronans to reoccupy their long abandoned base on Lapetus, a moon of Saturn. But tensions run high. The Lapetus outpost was originally intended to be the launching point for an invasion of Earth before the Kronans were repelled (earning them the inaccurate nickname, "The Stone Men of Saturn"), and some among the Stone Men would prefer to continue their aggressive expansion. Korg, who lost his brother in the failed invasion, must somehow bring the two sides together - a task that's complicated when the Kronan Emperor is injured in an assassination attempt! Can Baymax keep him alive long enough for Spider-Woman, Monica Chang, Hiro, Spiral, and Longshot to find the real assassin? Or will Colonel Jameson take the blame?
Meanwhile, on Centauri-IV, the crew of HYDRA's R.O.H.S. Ultimatum are being foiled in their efforts to forcibly colonize the primitive planet by Matriarch Oola Udonta and the Centaurian Inhumans. They might need to reevaluate their strategy and call upon a new associate with whom they've recently opened diplomatic relations – Ord of the Breakworld! Can anything stop this unholy alliance?

“I GOT FRIENDS IN SPACE PLACES”
Due to recent events, space politics are in turmoil! The Intergalactic Council, with representatives from the universe's major powers, has been decimated. Now there is a vacuum, but also an opportunity for new alliances to form... After successfully signing a treaty with the stone-like Kronans, thanks largely to the bravery of the progressive Kronan Korg and the crew of the U.S.S. Excelsior, the United States is confident that it can grow their new cosmic coalition and help provide some stability to a galaxy that desperately needs it by getting other worlds and nations to join the Local Group Treaty Organization (“L.G.T.O.”). Unfortunately, the People's Republic of Hydra has a similar idea - though they seek not stability, but conquest! Thanks to the R.O.H. Ultimatum and its captain, the Kraken, HYDRA has aligned with the Breakworld and its aggressive leader, Ord, to form the so-called "Black Bloc." The Bloc's first joint endeavor... is subjugating the primitive but resource-rich Centauri-IV! If the Excelsior can answer the distress call of Oola Udonta, matriarch of the Centaurian Inhumans, then there may be a chance to add another member to the L.G.T.O. - but can the fledgling coalition afford to make new enemies so soon? Is there romance in the air between Oola and Colonel John Jameson? And is the Black Bloc already vetting another member world that could tip the balance of power decisively in their direction – none other than Ego, the Living Planet?

“AIN'T EASY BEING GREEN”
The planet Namek was once a lush and thriving world... before the catastrophe. It was brought back from the brink by a single exiled survivor and the ability to asexually reproduce. But that single survivor, now known as Grand Elder Guru, is going to experience another catastrophe. The Breakworld, emboldened by its new "Black Bloc" alliance with HYDRA and Ego, has decided to invade and conquer. The Namekians' last, best hope is now a distress call to Colonel John Jameson and the crew of the U.S.S. Excelsior! While Jameson and Spider-Woman try to effectuate an evacuation under fire, First Officer Monica Chang unexpectedly finds herself romantically drawn to Grand Elder Guru's bodyguard - the last of the warrior-type Namekians, Nail. But remember the asexual reproduction? Can a relationship exist between two people who are so biologically different? Will they have a chance to find out before the Breakworld's powerful leader, Ord, faces Nail in single combat - to the death?!
Meanwhile, Longshot and Spiral embark on a separate mission to locate the one Namekian strong enough to repel the invasion... the one they call Piccolo!

"HOME IS WHERE THE WAR IS"

      • Infinity King tie-in***

Under the command of Thanos, an unstoppable alliance of Brood, Badoon, and Dire Wraiths have been unleashed upon the universe! And few are being hit harder by Thanos' hordes than the Shi'ar Imperium. America and its allies in the fledgling Local Group Treaty Organization have few resources to be leveraged in their defense, and although Colonel Jameson and his crew don't see eye to eye with the current Shi'ar government, they know that if the major galactic power falls then Earth is next. That means the U.S.S. Excelsior is joining the fight!
As the Excelsior joins the Shi'ar fleet in a struggling blockade around their throneworld of Chandilar, it is an uncomfortable homecoming for Colonel Jameson's duly assigned advisor Ava'Dara Naganandini, a.k.a. Warbird. Her time with the Excelsior crew, especially the youthful Hiro and lovable Baymax, has caused her to reflect on her life as a warrior for the Imperium - bred by machines and gestated inside a slave, trained in a war factory to assemble a pulse rifle before she could walk. Maybe the people in charge of the world she grew up on didn't deserve to be defended. Maybe the Imperium deserves to be fall. Maybe she should help it do so... In the middle of a cosmic battle, Warbird faces an existential crisis! Will her friends be able to help her make the right choice? What is the right choice?

"HOME IS WHERE THE WAR IS" Part Two "CHANDILAR HAS FALLEN"

      • Infinity King tie-in***

Thanos' hordes are unrelenting. The blockade around Chandilar has been broken. Now, Colonel John Jameson and the crew of the U.S.S. Excelsior have gone from defending the Shi'ar Throneworld to assisting in its evacuation. To keep the invaders away from the refugee caravans, the Excelsior must hold the line between them! And when the Brotherhood of the Badoon boards the ship and storms the bridge, Colonel Jameson might have to unleash a side of himself not seen in years - the howling horror, Man-Wolf!
Ava'Dara Naganandini, a.k.a. Warbird, has stayed behind on Chandilar. She knew that the establishment of her homeworld would not have allocated room on evacuation ships for those parentless children being trained in the war factors, as she had been. Warbird resolves to defend them... even if it costs her life! But unbeknownst to her, Hiro and Baymax stayed behind too! With their youthfulness and positivity, can they find another way to save the Shi'ar that were left behind and dissuade Warbird from sacrificing herself?
Meanwhile, Ord of the Breakworld, as a representative of the Black Bloc, has been granted a meeting to discuss an alliance... with Thanos!

First Officer Monica Chang must now lead Spider-Woman, Lonhshot, and the rest of her her team in a tense hunt through the bowels of the ship to find their leader. But can they stop Jameson without killing him?
Meanwhile, the destruction of the Dire Wraith's homeworld (see NOVA CORPS #29) has caused Ord of Breakworld, Ego the Living Planet, and the Kraken of HYDRA's space program (collectively known as the Black Bloc) to reconsider an alliance with Thanos. "FEAR AND LOATHING IN CHANDILAR"

      • Infinity King tie-in***

The Shi'ar Homeworld has fallen to Thanos' hordes. Once the shining jewel of the Imperium, now it's a war-zone. Members of the Excelsior crew - big heroes Hiro Takachiho and Baymax, as well as Ava'Dara Naganandini, a.k.a. Warbird - stayed behind to protect any survivors from vengeful Dire Wraith kill-squads looking to "fumigate" the planet and claim it as their own. The stranded crew members have to somehow get the group of civilians they assembled off world as nowhere on Chandilar is safe. It seems an impossible task, but one survivor has some tricks up his sleeve. After all, he survived one planet's destruction when he escaped Melmac. Could Alf be the hero Chandilar needs?
Meanwhile, the U.S.S. Excelsior has safely escorted the main Shi'ar refugee caravan to the sparsely-populated planet Namek, member of the Local Group Treaty Organization along with Earth. With the refugees safe, and Colonel Jameson recovering from his transformation into the lycanthropic Man-Wolf, will first officer Monica Chang order the ship back into danger to rescue those that stayed behind?

Can they even hope to reach Hiro, Baymax, and Warbird when a Badoon fleet stands between them? Ace helmsman Longshot likes his odds!
Meanwhile, Colonel Jameson is left behind to mentally recover on planet Namek, his recent transformation into Man-Wolf rendering him unsuitable for duty. But Namek is now host to an incomprehensible number of desperate Shi'ar refugees, many of whom are starving and do not respect or understand Namekian traditions. The planet's leader Grand Elder Guru, and his bodyguard Nail, struggle to control the influx. But when some refugees turn out to be murderous Dire Wraiths, they'll need Jameson's help to route them out! Welcome to the suburbs of New Maveth, a friendly suburban locale just a short train ride from the big city. It boasts low taxes, great educational choices, responsible law enforcement, and a real sense of community. And, oh yeah, it's located on Ego the Living Planet! "WAR OF WORDS"

Thanos' hordes have been defeated, but they've left a trail of destruction in their wake. Now new institutions must rise up to replace the old. The fledgling Local Group Treaty Organization, a N.A.T.O.-like alliance of nations and worlds that previously consisted of Centauri-IV, Namek, the Kronans, and the United Sates of America, stands poised to become a major player on the intergalactic stage as Xander and the Kree have agreed to enter discussions with them at a post-war conference on Saturn's moon. If either or both powers joined the L.G.T.O., it would be a game-changer, and that's why the organization has chosen its best to represent it at the conference: Colonel John Jameson and the crew of the U.S.S. Excelsior! But their job is about to become more difficult, as the Black Bloc also finds itself in a position to expand! The rival organization - composed of Breakworld, the Chitauri, Ego the Living Planet, and the People's Republic of Hydra - wants to ally with Xander and the Kree as well. It's a diplomatic tug-of-war as two philosophically opposed ideologies must do battle at the negotiating table - and only one can claim victory!
Plus, in order to minimize spin and given their history with the intergalactic TV network, first officer Chang believes it's a good idea for Longshot and Spiral to accept Mojovision's offer to cover the conference as official correspondents. "FEED THE TROLLS" part one "ROCK TROLL AND A HARD PLACE"
The Excelsior crew succeeded in negotiations on behalf of the Local Group Treaty Organization, getting Xandar to sign onto the alliance and granting the Kree Empire favored nation status. But success brings its own perils, and now, after the decimation wrought by the Infinity King, myriad groups from around the Galaxy want into the L.G.T.O. Colonel Jameson is excited when the Excelsior is sent to Asgard to explore a potential alliance, but less so when he realizes it wasn't the shining city that summoned his vessel but rather the "realm below." Ulik speaks for the Rock Trolls, seeking admission into the L.G.T.O. to protect them from the Asgardians, whom Ulik claims are constant aggressors and force them to live underground. Jameson, Hiro, Baymax, Longshot, and the crew quickly realize they've walked into a political minefield - a cross between the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Dungeons & Dragons... in space! When Balder the Brave hears of the Trolls' efforts, he interjects himself on behalf of Asgard. With the Excelsior caught in the middle, is there any hope of reaching a peaceful accord with each side?
Meanwhile, "Spider-Woman" Jessica Drew continues to live undercover in New Maveth, the city run by the People's Republic of Hydra and located on Ego the Living Planet that they've billed as an idyllic escape from global warning. So far everything seems... perfect. Jessica, though, just can't stop digging. If Jameson wants the parties to adopt his proposal, he'll have to impossibly best both Ulik and Asgard's representative, Balder the Brave, in combat in the grand arena! Good thing Baymax is standing by to render medical assistance...
Meanwhile, Ego the Living Planet has discovered that Jessica "Spider Woman" Drew has been residing on him undercover.
